Instead : after 300 years they still hadn't learned that fighting zombies with : brains wasn't a good idea. How long was it before the sentinels were developed? They are such a specialised weapon against the flood they couldn't have been there before the infection.The forerunners would need to have studied the flood (at least in battle) to find out their weaknesses. Anyway, in one of the terminals it says how the Forerunner had been at peace for so long they didn't need any weapons, and the life they were protecting didn't develop any weapons either, so they were defenceless for the first couple of years, when the flood could get a strong foothold.
