Re: Atlantis and the way things were

In Response To: Atlantis and the way things were (scarab)

: In Regret, CHAPTER 02: "One Way Ticket": CORTANA: You know, I think
: the forerunners built these new structures around the old, to protect
: them, to honor them. Pure speculation, mind you. I'd need to make a
: thorough survey to be sure.

: We never did find out what the deal was with these structures. Its unlikely
: that they were Precursor. Were they pre-industrial Forerunner? From the
: Forerunner homeworld?

: Later: CORTANA: This lake couldn't have been created by volcanic action,
: which means it was either built this way on purpose, or was created by
: some other cataclysmic event. Oh, sorry, were you trying to kill
: something?

: Another one of Cortana's bizare, this is not a natural formation, statements.

: What kind of cataclysm would dig a crater and yet leave the ring intact?

: Is it the point of impact of a Flood infested ship or big rock?

: But why would there be undamaged temple towers in the middle of the lake?
: They would have to have been made or rebuilt after the cataclysm.

: It doesn't make sense.

: Unless... Its a monument to Atlantis...

: If we go back to the pre Halo 3 days, before the Forerunner concept was
: changed, when Earth was the Ark and was probably an important Forerunner
: cultural/technological/financial center...

: Maybe the old idea was that Forerunner were literally Human or had a colony
: on Earth that was destroyed in some cataclysm. It may have been a small
: 'continent' or island that was destroyed in a catalysm, perhaps a caldera
: exploded.

: Maybe the Delta Halo Island was a recreation of Atlantis, somewhere near
: Africa, just as Africa itself was recreated on Delta Halo.

: The temples were Atlantean structures saved from the cataclysm.

Just as a matter of a point of scale here...the entire Delta Halo level from HEV drop to Regret's temple takes place in a squarish area including both lakes and surrounding mountains with about 1,200ft to a side. If the width of Delta Halo was represented by 1024 pixels on your screen, that 1200 pixel length (with that gondola lake a tiny crater within) would be represented as a single pixel. Hardly enough to do any damage to the ring.
