In Response To: Cortana Letter (Narcogen) : You know, you almost have me convinced. : And this mention of SolCore and its "lost" colony worlds certainly
Its something in the Cortana letters that always stood out to me. Not even just in the context of the Halo story. Its simply the idea of it. Imagine if we ventured out for real and actually did find lost colonies already out there. Its such a mind-f**k. It goes against everything we think we know. Science and religion would have to adjust. But in the Halo context, I thought that Earth might find lost colonies. I spent less time thinking that Earth might be the lost colony (or Lost Homeworld). There was a time when I thought that the lost colonies were a sign of a recovery after some devastating event like the Array activation. I had speculated that we were reseeded. Perhaps reseeding worked by dropping individuals back on their former worlds. There may not be enough left to keep up their high tech. The reseeded may just be ignorant clones that have to relearn civ. In that case 'lost colonies' would be the normal experience for any reseeded race that had previously settled on several worlds. I also thought that this might have happened to Covenant species and this would give them a clue to what actually happened when the Forerunners 'transcended'. <- This was in the days of sneaky-Truth who knew more than he was letting on. Turns out that sneaky-Truth was overthinking on our part. Pity, I quite liked him. :-) : The problem I have with it is that I tend to view the Letters much as Wu
Which changes are changes in themes and which are changes in implementation? : I'm willing to give Bungie a lot of credit for being devious. But to suggest
I think that they always meant to have F==H but that revelation would normally be something that you would show towards the end of your story (to be a surprise or a pay off). So if F==H comes near the end then the explanation for how F==H and Humans didn't know about it also has to come at the end. Or be very cunningly hidden. Its not really a devious plan, its just the way it has to be. Games take forever to develop, h2 should have been the end. Now in 2007 they reach the point were they can finally reveal what they were thinking back then.
