In Response To: Re: This is my point, exactly. *CH* *SP* (Louis Wu) : Can you show me where either of these ideas is expressed, unequivocally, in : the Cortana Letters? I've just reread all five of them (plus the hidden : one from the Myth CD), and I simply can't see where you're getting this : from. : Thanks. These ideas are: 1) Humans were unaware of their history. 2) There were Humans outside of Earth before the current Human civ discovered
The text from the letters is: In a relatively brief period of time, the achievements of SolCore had resulted in an economically stable, technologically mature, rapidly expanding empire of eight human worlds. Advancements in technology arrived at a faster pace than the most optimistic scientists could have ever envisioned. Unexpected contact with indigenous human populations on four "lost colony" worlds led to a frenzy of research as archaeologists, theologians, astronomers, and evolutionary biologists competed to offer an explanation for the startling discovery. Many accepted the findings as proof that their privileged civilization must surely be the most advanced in the universe. Others eagerly anticipated future interaction with intelligent "aliens". The fear of not being the only sentient species in the universe was forgotten in the giddy excitement of a new era for humanity. How does a rapidly expanding empire of eight worlds have time to loose colonies? Its not like there were hundreds of worlds in an empire that had grown over centuaries. This empire grew rapidly and yet discovered 'lost colonies' that it didn't know it had. Why a frenzy of research? Couldn't they just ask the colonists how they got there? Sounds like the colonists didn't have the answer. The empire didn't either or they would have known all about the colonies and wouldn't need to research anything. So we have a rapidly expanding empire that finds that humans are already living out there. There is something going on that the humans don't know about. So... 1) The humans are not aware of their history. The rapidly expanding empire found colonies that existed before they got there. OK, maybe the humans had interstellar space flight for a very long time but chose not to use it. A secret fraction of humans snuck away, founded colonies, forgot how they got there, then got found when the rest of humanity changed their minds. Or 2) There were Humans outside of Earth before the current Human civ discovered
I have to ask, have you read Contact Harvest? Do you think that Joe is saying that only Truth, regret, and Mercy know the real reason why the humans are to be killed? Do you agree that the reason is because the 3 know that we are Forerunners? If you disagree then what is your interpretation of what Joe is saying, especially of pages 272 to 278?
