In what way? Those letters express an intent on the story tellers' part. To have Humans not of Earth or to have had an extraterrestrial civilisation before this one. At the time of the Cortana letters some at Bungie were thinking along those lines. No matter what may or may not have happened since, the thoughts were there. Humans had a tech civ and lost all memory. Or we were uplifted by some Precursor race. Were given their mantle or were abandonned and took it. There are a large number of statements that say, explicitly, that we are Forerunner, that we are their children. We can choose to rationalize those statements, to tell ourselve that they are not meant to be taken literally. But why is it tenuous to accept a statement like 'you are Forerunner' literally and not tenuous to reject the literal interpretation? Truth heard the oracle's words and took them to mean that we were Forerunner, that we were left behind, and this was the truth that he had to hide. Yes we could choose to believe that Truth was in error, that Sparky was in error or just a poet but I wonder what lengths Bungie would have to go to to convince you that Humans are Forerunner. Just for the sake of argument, imagine that Humans were Forerunner, what would Bungie have to do to convince you that this was their intent?
