In Response To: Serious soldiering (Rockslider) : Er, I think you've slightly flown off the handle here, as if you think I've : been saying everyone should play very cautiously and deadly serious - : which I haven't of course. No indeedy. At the monument of trigger-happy : incoherence known as Bad Cyborg we're all-embracing and anti-elitist. You : may also have missed the playful tone of good humour in what I was saying : about some of Mike's fighting in Legend, where I wantonly overlooked all : the bits where he's maybe in proper control (i.e. not down to two bars of : health with shield bleeping and wading into yet more trouble). I think : Mike will readily admit that portions of that play are deliberately : gung-ho for the sake of exhuberant video spectacle. I was just recalling : the bits that made the most vivid impression on me. But I think I now also : recall a lot of nice 'stun and tag' moves, which were nice to see and made : me feel more comfortable. : I'd say it's when you're properly in control, using your weapons well, and
: Cough splutter! Or, in Elvish for extra incoherence, cooflienabli
I'm surprised and...somewhat impressed that you remember that. Yeah, it's always bugged me that your site didn't have many descriptors or pictures to help the reader along. I must say, you actually have started writing the site clearer--my issue was that back in the day, you would use a lot of non-official names to refer to places and things, as if they were accepted terms, and it got me lost a lot. So I stopped reading. But now you've got me interested again. I'd like to play some megabattles and vidcap them. D'you want me to send the captures your way? I would love to see a "megabattle montage" or something similar happen, and I'm offering to help--if you like the idea. Anyhow. On the issue of how to play, I'm exactly the opposite. I like to...well...play! I treat most encounters as if I had unlimited lives and fight accordingly--because I can respawn anytime I want. And that's one of the things I enjoy most about Halo is that it supports so many different styles of play. Sorry. I took exception to the way you described your own style, and I sniffed a bit of elitist sentiment. I was wrong.
