Medal for getting through without dying | |

In Response To: Re: Halo 3 achievements. (GhaleonEB) : I'm hoping for a few fun, challenging ones in the campaign; perhaps : "complete any campaign mission on Legendary without dying" - : something to that effect. Completing a level without dying is certainly a good example of a meaningful achievement. But I'd like to suggest that this one actually be linked to the medal business. For each difficulty, the medal should only be given after you've got through the level without dying. Because let's face it, getting through after you've been killed half a dozen times cannot be construed as a successful mission! It seems bad to reward failure, and it fails to encourage what should be the true goal, that of getting through without dying. The game is trying to reflect a reality, after all; and it just ain't real when you die and then continue. However, because gamers have been spoilt in earlier games by getting medals merely for clawing their way through after multiple deaths (a sure sign of playing at a difficulty level they're not really ready for yet), they'd doubtless complain at that scheme. To satisfy the poor little dears, we could take a compromise and perhaps show the medal in two stages. If you get through after dying, the medal would show up in some sort of incomplete state - perhaps make it look tarnished, befitting your unpolished gameplay. You'd only get the final graphic when you actually succeed in your mission, i.e. do it without dying.
