In Response To: Re: Frankie says it's not "Video Related." (DS) : Then I still vote for map editor, even though I have doubts about interfacing : with a map editor with a 360 controller. : What kept Doom going for me all those years ago was maps created by users.
You ought to check out Marathon, if you haven't yet. 2.5D engine like DOOM, plus the ability to look up and down. And... ya know... story. (I won't rip on DOOM too much. I have some rather fond memories of it. I loved it when I was 5 or 6. Huh, I don't seem to have murdered anyone. Funny, that). I don't know what's going on with the old school DOOM community, but Marathon still has an active map making base, and Aleph One has brought the game, and hi-res graphics and online play, to every major operating system. I didn't actually play the games until '04 or '05, I think, so this isn't coming from one of the old guard. I found it pretty enjoyable, even by todays standards. The mouse support could really use a kick in the teeth, but you should still check it out.
