In Response To: Freecam without killing tricks (Narcogen) : How about this: Let the camera be moved a fixed distance from the player, and : then rotated on all three axes. It lets you change the angle of view in : any way you like, as well as turn to get the Chief in the shot. A lot of : freedom for those making screenshots and movies. But since you can't go : with the camera anyplace you can't bring the player character, it would : preserve the incentive for true exploration. I was thinking along those lines myself. But who would be the player if you were filming half a dozen people in multiplayer? Or even two in coop? Do explorers care as much about exploring mp maps? Could you have a separate set of rules for sp and mp? And you'd still have the 3rd person effect of being able to see things that the player never could. Don't know how much it would matter, its still better than being able to roam completely unrestricted. I'd be happy enough with filmed games being from the player's 1st person perspective. Its more visceral and you'd feel less like a spectator because you're seeing the action from the usual viewpoint. Imagine Mike Miller's GDK blitz through the belly of the beast done in 3rd person. I imagine that it would look flat. You'd probably notice that the character models are a bit too gamey, not as good as feature film cgi. You would be watching as a member of an audience and not as a participant.
