In Response To: Re: There's pie in that thar sky (Captain Spark) : "On-line co-op." I'm on the fence about this one. Out of curiosity, how come? It seems to work well in Gears of War. : No destructible vehicles. let's revisit the Warthog Jump! I'm torn, here -- on the one hand, the Warthog Jump is classic, crazy fun. On the other, destructable vehicles in Halo 2 add to the fun (in my opinion). Blowing a ghost to hell with a rocket or well-placed grenade is satisfying, and having the Scorpion blow up on me after I take too much damage just seems natural. I think that this might best be served as an unlockable option -- beat it with destructable vehicles once, on any difficulty level, and earn the option to turn on invincible vehicles in Campaign. : No invincible Sgt Johnson. In Halo 1 it never bothered me one little bit to
Definitely -- invincible allies become tools rather than characters; conversely, invincible enemies become environmental hazards at best, frustrating game-killers at worst. : No boss battles at all. Boss battles are for cheesy sword slasher games and
I'm actually a little split on this one, much to my surprise. I hated the existence of boss battles in Halo 2. I really don't want to see any in Halo 3... but I understand how there might have to be at least one: namely, a fight against Regret. (Gravemind shouldn't even be directly encountered by the Chief -- for all he knows, one touch of a tentacle could result in the Chief suddenly teleported to a slow, agonizing death by drifting forever in space. No, Gravemind should be dealt with in another way; Regret, however, does not quite have the danger.) I think a compromise would be to have any boss fights in Halo 3 not feel like a boss fight, whatsoever. No achilles heel, no unique and obscenely-powerful weapon(s) -- just a very difficult fight with a uniquely tough, smart opponent--if it even comes to that. ~Socrates
