In Response To: Re: Story and Gameplay Integration (Narcogen) The reason why I prefer parts of HL2 to anything in the Halo universe is the same reason I loved Marathon: atmosphere. The quiet moments have much more impact than the tense moments of gunplay on making the player feel that they are really in a living, breathing world. HL2 was rife with these, as was Marathon. Also, Marathon's copious use of text terminals for world exposition or to advance the story helped with conveying the atmosphere. Now that we have dynamic soundtracks and audio exposition through other ingame characters, (this is in games in general, not just Halo) the quiet moments where the atmosphere really sinks in a rare. IMO that's really a shame. ~Ma1
