In Response To: Re: Who cares about Halo's story? Article (DMDyet)
: I know a lot of people, that with any game, simply skip any and all
: cutscenes. I understand the desire to simply play a game for the game, but
: story just adds all that more for me personally at atleast. And it just
: seems arrogant to me to not even make an effort to try to understand the
: story. I mean, if you played Halo CE and Halo 2, you would have a very
: good idea of what was going on unless you were arrogant to the facts
: placed in front of you, correct?
: I know a lot of people that say Halo 2 was way overhyped, and I agree that is
: wasn't nearly as good a game as it should have been, but to say that the
: story in it was sub-par is stupidity. Yes the game ends abruptly, but
: Bungie really had no choice in that matter-they wanted to take it further,
: but time restrictions kicked in, and where the ending WOULD have been had
: to be cut of and replaced with a last-second one. So we get a massive
: to-be-continued ending. But what about other games where this is done? I
: know in Rainbow Six Vegas, a lot of people loved the story and what you
: can learn by listening-but it has a to be continued ending. Why weren't
: people up in arms about it?
: I think, fact of the matter is, you will always have people like the grinders
: or hardcore-gamers of this World of Warcraft "era", that seem to
: enjoy doing the same thing over and over again without spending a moment
: to try and understand their environment or what exactly is going on. In my
: experience, these people are also the ones who think reading books is
: geeky, action movies are only good with lots of explosions, so on and so
: fourth-you get the idea.
: Fact of the matter is, with a lot of games, story should be paid attention
: to, and the likes of Valve and Bungie are trying to make story much more
: important in games. How many story-less first person shooters have you
: heard of? Why do you think games based on WWI and WWII are made? Because
: they have a story. They have a villain, a good guy, a climax and an
: ending. Would Call Of Duty be that much more interesting to play if you
: were simply a pair of floating hands with guns placed in a battle that
: looks like WWII? Of course not.
AMEN TO THAT!
