Yes, and I'm one of them.

I buy video games for the game play and the story is the last thing on my mind. Both Halo games have a nice story but after several times playing through each game I just want to settle in and have fun. I still play the original Halo campaign and I still have a blast with it. I don't play the Halo 2
campaign as often anymore mostly because it lacks the fun game play as the original Halo does. Halo 2 is incredibly linear, what I call "Halo on a rail", you are rammed through the game too fast. I rarely play Halo 2 on Live and I have several reasons why that I'm not going to go into anymore.

I've been playing shooter games since the first Doom game came on the scene. Many of the older games had such silly stories, if they had a story in the first place, so I've been conditioned to ignore the story and focus on the actual game play.

I have all the Halo books and I've read each one and least 5 times. I like the Halo story but when I play the game, I could care less about the story.
