How Halo changed my life

In Response To: Is it bad if Halo changed my life? (Dustbunny27)

In my freshman year of high school, I had a couple of sophomore friends who just happened to need another person for even teams. They invited me over to play Halo. I, never having played, told them I didn't know if I wanted to and made fun of Halo and Xbox.

I went anyway. I hated it. I had no idea how to play and all I did was die. Miserable. The next Friday we did the same thing (it was a weekly event to have 4v4 in one of our basements), and for some reason everything was different. We played 4v4 CTF on Blood Gulch and I had a blast. I still died every time I had an encounter, but the interaction and the experience was amazing.

Of course I had to get an Xbox so I could play at home. For Christmas of 2003 I got my Xbox, and two days later I bought Halo from my local Blockbuster. I played until I went back to school on January 3rd, only taking a break to countdown to New Year.

For two years we had a 4v4 every Friday night without fail, and it was good. Eventually people stopped coming, new people came, they went to college, and we stopped talking.

During my junior year I was invited to LAN party by a new friend. I went and owned the noobs, they hadn't been playing long. We became good friends and through him I met my two other best friends. We formed a new group with the four of us and a few girls who liked to be noobs. One of them is now my girlfriend of a year as of tomorrow.

We still play Halo together when we can, which isn't often because of college, but we're all still friends. I think Halo has done this for a lot of people. Without it, our ridiculous group of misfits never would have been brought together.

For this, I thank Bungie, Halo, HBO, and all of you.
