Both were fundamentally different. But the Halo : 2 Gold Elites are called 'Zealots', and Elites in general now speak like : Protoss, and the Zealots share their Protoss namesakes' taste for battle. : Why they made Halo 2's elites protoss-like when the originals were so : original and memorable in their own right beats me. I think they seem alike because they follow a familiar sci fi forumla: Any two factions fighting eachother will often join together together to fight some hideous greater evil. It is also very common for this new enemy to be an AI construct or the ultimate biological weapon. (Star Craft: Protoss vs Terran) vs Zerg. (Star Trek: Federation vs The Non-Fed) vs the Borg. (Star Wars: Jedi factions vs the Sith factions) vs the Vong (In the novels) (Dune: The linage of Atreides vs Guild/Houses/Gesserit) vs the unknown reason for the scattering. (Robotech: Humans vs Zentraedi) vs Envid. (Firefly/Serenity: Rebels vs Alliance) vs Reavers. (Command and Conquer, Firestorm: GDI vs Nod) vs CABAL
