So if the Reclaimer refuses then Sparky has to find another. But Sparky needed the index and the Chief was witholding that. Once he was in the way, Sparky ordered him killed. And he was very nonchalant about it. There was no trace of Reclaimer reverence. : Now, on Delta Halo, things are a bit different, not the least among them a : lack of properly followed protocol inr ecovering the Index, plus the fact : that the Reclaimer is forced to fire Halo (as oppossed to willingly doing : it on Alpha Halo) and the fact that they're on a completely different Halo : where Spark may not have any say in the matter. If 2401 Penitent Tangent : was present, he might have something else to say on the matter, but Spark : appears to be regulated to an advisory capacity on another Halo. So we have: protocol not followed reclaimer unwilling not Sparky's Halo Sparky powerless Lets take them one at a time. Protocol not followed. I'm not convinced. The Flood are about to re-infect the galaxy. I think that protocol is: Flood escaping, find Reclaimer, get index, insert index, fire Halos. Its that simple, its not a Japanese tea ceremony. Keyes got the index, Keyes inserted it. I think that's good enough and I seriously doubt that Sparky needs more. reclaimer unwilling The control panel didn't complain that she was forced and I don't believe that Sparky cared. He never cared what the Chief thought. not Sparky's Halo I don't find this one convincing either. Its the Flood! Sparky powerless All he needed to do was keep quiet. None of the above explanations for Sparky's behaviour are very complelling. I can't say for sure that they are wrong but I'd feel short changed by the story if any of them were presented by Bungie. The simplest explanation is that Sparky is incapable of lying and if he can't refuse to answer a direct question. I don't know if you have to be anybody special to ask, he may not answer Gravemind but who knows... This gets me 9/10 of the way to understanding his behaviour. He may have had no choice but to answer Keyes. OTOH he could have knocked her to her death as she tried to reach the index. We didn't see him try. Bungie could have shown him trying but taking too long to reach her. He could have butted her out of the way but the others could have used the hammer to freeze him. If he didn't want the firing stopped then he could have taken steps, even if he can't resist answering her questions. The fact that Bungie didn't show him even trying to stop her leaves us wondering if he cared. Was that their intention? Has his opinion changed? (Is it possible for his opinion to change on this subject?) Did Bungie slip in the story telling?
