In this case the medium prevents interraction with mundane particles until impact, which would presumably interract to convert said tachyons to mundane matter, which would result in steamy boom. Or: Perhaps the plasma is an uncollapsed probability wave and the medium is an insulator from collapsing effects (such as observation and/or interraction with absolutely anything at all). The question is, how do they fit the cat into each charge?
