Oceans can rise for other reasons.

In Response To: Then what? (plus another clue) (Jordan117)

: Then how do explain the dry docks? The sea wall? The missing coastal cities?

: Also, I remembered another clue: in one of the ilovebees sound files, Jan and
: a soldier have this exchange: Jan: Hey, I'm new in Boston... what's
: worth seeing around here?
: Soldier: Well there's a pretty cool scuba tour of the old subway tunnel.
: You want a guide? I'd be glad to volunteer.

: Apparently, the city of Boston either couldn't save or didn't want to save
: its subway system from the rising water... or maybe subways aren't
: necessary anymore, after the invention of maglevs and automatic highways.

: Transcript of the scene

: Sound file for scene

I just don't think that global warming is the culprit in the Halo universe.

Remember, a 3 or 4 degree fahrenheit (5, if you're an alarmist, and you don't discount the urban heat island effect) change probably wouldn't sink those cities. The water table may have gone up slightly, resulting in flooded subway tunnels, but, once again, 4orty 2wo isn't Bungie.

I'm not arguing with your analysis, just how it came to be. But, hey, you could totally be right, if most of the Bungie guys aren't versed in the ins and outs of it, and just listen to the news.
