Once again you're overgeneralizing. You should really work on that. The SMG is nowhere near as good as the pistol. That's not a bad thing. It's also nowhere near as worthless as you make it out to be. There may be better close-range options-shotgun, swords, rockets-but if all you're doing is just spraying the gun and hoping it hits something, then you're not using the gun properly, and of course you're going to get your ass kicked every goddamn time. The SMG tends to make you use your surroundings, your grenades, your burst fires, and even outsmarting opponents to do well with. And yes, it may just be easier to grab one of those other guns for your in-close fighting, but in a pinch, it does well enough, and has many times killed the guy with that better gun for me to pick off his corpse. Further, you don't start with the pistol on every map in Halo 1. You have to screw around with options to do so. Try playing with default weapons on a level like Derelict or Blood Gulch, and it will become apparent the problems that game had. They pretty much become a race for the pistol, as you'll get spawnkilled easily on both maps without one. I've gone up against the best Halo 1 players in Detroit and did well against them in that game, as I did when they played Halo 2. Don't talk to me like I don't know what I'm doing, because I don't need to prove anything to you. Just because you know peoples who play a video game for their liveliehood doesn't make their opinions more valid than anyone else's. |
