Perhaps you're right about the need for some form of auto-aim. It is possible that the game may not work without it. However, Call of Duty 2 (the most familiar contemporary FPS to me) has practically zero auto-aim in single-player, and even on Xbox Live, the AA is extremely low from what I've been able to make out, yet it plays very well. So auto-aim in Halo 3 should be extremely low, and definitely no more than what was in Halo 1. However, reticule magnetism is totally unnecessary. I can see the need for some form of auto aim, but to also have the computer slow down the reticule like it does makes no sense. It's also quite annoying. I don't like the fact that the game tries to gravitate the reticule towards an enemy, especially when I don't want it to (for example, when I'm shooting at a different enemy). I should have total control over where I decide to point my reticule. However, some people may prefer or even find necessary reticule magnetism, so perhaps a compromise is in order. I'd like to suggest that like automatic look centering, the player should have the option to turn magnetism off. |
