: I think he's wrong. I think the Forerunners deliberately chose not to do so.
: Why? Interesting points. The way I've always looked at it is that the Forerunners were simply trying to eradicate the Flood, but they had never figured out how to do so directly, and came to the conclusion that the only way to stop them is to destroy all intelligent life in the galaxy. Of course, this means that they would've simply built the Halos as single-purpose superweapons, rather than as dual purpose structures that are part superweapon, part artifical biospheres to study and contain the Flood. Continued study would've been unnecessary if they already came to the conlusion that only a superweapon like Halo could wipe them out. So in retrospect, my previous conclusions doesn't mesh well with what we know about the Flood. Still, their motivations are quite mysterious. Hopefully, Bungie will fully flesh out the details of the history between the Forerunners and Flood and the exact rationale behind the former's creation of the Halo network in Halo 3's story. |
