In Response To: Re: My Thoughts on the Halo Series (Endbringer) : When you find yourself up against 3 guys in Blood Gulch: 1 with the Sniper on
It is very easy to do, stay behind a hill and you're extremely hard for a tank to hit, 2-3 nades and a full pistol or AR clip should do nicely. A continuously firing tank in H1 had long waits to reload, meaning you weren't as likely to get shot off the spawn consecutive times. Taking the tank and the sniper down is tricky, I suggest sending a teammate after one (3v1 is not a realistic game situation!) or the other, and this is the beauty of the pistol! If the sniper does not hit you before you can locate him (ie he gets 1 free kill then must move because of the trail) you can keep him out of scope with the pistol. Strategy and teamwork were a large part of Halo 1 as well, but skill was needed to execute them. The further the distance the more you had to lead your pistol-shot. This made it more inaccurate when facing sniper fire, keeping them out of scope once spotted but often taking a full clip to kill them...not the easy three-shot you are making it out to be. : Given the fact that there is usually another sniper on such a map, and a
Of course if the other team has both (which often happens because it will drop one team in the middle of BG and half of the other team at each base in H2 in TS) the other team spawns with map control. The team that spawns on rocket is promtly sniped and the rockets claimed. The losing team resorts to charging in vehicles which are promtly popped and with BRs. If they happen to keep the snipers out of scope long enough to get close they get killed by the rockets with the snipers helping clean up with secondary BRs. However in H1 with the pistol and snipers/rockets that respawn even if they are held the losing team can simply wait for a sniper spawn, or use pistols. : Ooookaaaayy. That is of course your oppinion and you're entitled to it.
All of these mentioned are either complete weapon sets or power weapons. It is not simply my opinion that there is a huge gap between the single dual wieldables and the power weapons. All the weapons in H1 sans needler were complete weapons and all were POWERFUL. In H2 the pistol, smg, PP (minus overcharge) and PR (and BR to a lesser degree) are incredibly overshadowed by the power of the Sword, Rocket, and Shotgun (when it works). : In the overall sense I feel it is, yes. But the big difference is that he
Perhaps you simply respect the amount of work the OP obviously put into his writing as you insult anyone that actually shares his opinion. I'll make no further comments about you, but rather discuss myself in response. I have not threatened Bungie, screamed in thread, insulted the intelligence of Bungie or fans of any opinion. I use correct capitalization and puncuation and have few mispellings if any. I did not bring the topic up, but instead participated in a discussion of said topic. For this reason I was hurt that you claimed I was beating a dead horse and retaliated (though civily). For that I apoligize to you. That said I assure you that I share all sentiments of the OP, in fact for once I believe I agree 100% with someones analysis of the matter. I just wish I had his verbosity. : Given the rate of fire and the fact that only 3 shots to the head are needed
I do not believe my analisys is off at all as it is impossible for the best pistol user to three-shot a AR or shotgun user that is circle strafing him, and if it is a PR/PP it is GOODNIGHT as he can't turn around even if he has the dexterity and reflexes to do so. Remember I am talking close range, the pistol is a mid range weapon, quite frankly close range is its weak point. : Again only if you can get the first shot kill. If you don't by the time your
: At really long range, yes. Problem is most maps don't give you that. In maps
Not if map designers give sufficient cover for the sniper to move swiftly and silently from place to place around the map. I belive Lockout would actually play basically the same however you wouldn't have people on both sides of the map using up all BR ammo and ending camping with empty guns because their enemy can easily get away whenever they come under fire. Ascension is in fact big enough for the sniper and pistol to co-exist, it is actually quite a large map. Beaver Creek worked fine in H1, Foundation normally has no sniper and BR reaches across map anyways. I appreciate that you are conceding the point that the pistol worked will on larger H1 maps. You are not as close minded as I foolishly jibed in my previous post. : In Halo2 I once killed a Sword wielder with DW Needlers. Most fun I ever had. Host, sorry, dead horse, soo true. Also probly a charging swordsman, strafe-charge even a little bit at close range and that would be impossible. Also if he whipped the sword out out of range too he deserved to die! Most sword deaths you are not even aware that they have the sword. A massive delay should be implemented ala H1 switch to rockets. Oh, also note that this only happened "once" by your own admittance. |
