In Response To: Re: My Thoughts on the Halo Series (JakeDaGreat) : Hardcore players want to have fun, but they also want to win. And not only
: Your chess analogy doesn't make any sense. How? The "best" baseball team can lose to the worst team in the league. The "best" chess player in the room can lose a newbe. Yes, they are the "best," but that doesn't mean there is no hope of someone else, even someone "worse" winning. The analogy is to show that in a moment like that, the "winner" is still skilled, but skill isn't the only factor involved in winning, or even enjoying the game. Even the skilled player might have won a game or two by luck. Also, you just told me how to play the game. You said losing is not fun, and everyone "should be able to have fun. (within reasonable limits of course)" Why do the losing players keep playing? We both agree everyone should have fun. And of course everyone plays to win. But winning and fun are not in any way directly correlational. Niether are skill and fun directly correlational. Honestly, my feelings on this particular issue have nothing to do with Halo, its more of a cultural thing as a whole, so the whole point is moot. |
