In Response To: My Thoughts on the Halo Series (Gravemind) ! DISCLAIMER !
Your take on Legendary was right on. The million dollar question: what should change when difficulty changes? In my opinion, the following are "valid", meaning these are realistic means in which difficulty can be increased: - Increase number of foes
These are acceptable because each is realistic - "I'm doing legendary...oh sh*t, 500 grunts!" That's good, because it could happen. No RULES or RELATIONSHIPS have been changed, they just brought a larger force this time. The problem with "cheap" changes is that it breaks the storyline. "I'm the MC, the baddest MFer in the galaxy. Oh, sh*t! A grunt just beat me down." Don't make me weaker. Don't make them stronger. Don't make my plasma rifle shoot popcorn and enemy's shoot death incarnate. Keep the relationships the same. Even give Gruntys fuel rod cannons instead of PPs, and leave me with nothing but an SMG or whatever, but don't bend the rules of the Haloverse. This is going to sound stupid, but I loved playing H1 on Legendary so I could feel like a bad ass. I might get killed in the middle of 15 grunts and 4 elites, but it was OK, because I went down in a blaze of glory. In H2 I try the same, and I'm dead before I get my guns out. I'M A BAD-ASS HERO ARCHTYPE!!!! Please don't make me wear panties. |
