My friend and fellow Halo-freak,

If it doesn't say "Bungie" before it, then that doesn't mean that it is impossible for it to be related to Halo. It just means that it's impossible for it to be officially related to Halo. There is a world of difference. We don't think that there are actual soldiers out in the middle of an abandoned box canyon out there in the Haloverse somewhere, killing each other accidentally and speaking with each others' ghosts, do we? Yet, there exists Red versus Blue.

As for what you describe as being a random insertion of some non-Bungie Halo creation in the middle of the saga, it is far too late for what you are describing to be avoided. Halo: Zero has already released; Red vs Blue has already been through 4 seasons; there are tons of fanfiction in the HBO archives that has been written in the middle of Bungie's saga. These are all moot points now that we've (hopefully) distinguished between "official" and "otherwise," but in case some remnant of your original ideas remains, I'll continue.

If games are to be used as the specific example by which you say there should be no interruption to Bungie's "vehicle for their stories" then many, many Flash games have been made that are related to Halo. The same with Halo: Zero. My point is, none of that matters. You know that they aren't made by Bungie (though Halo:Zero, oddly, includes Bungie's unaltered logo in the opening credits, which isn't the smartest move, but, hey, nobody's perfect, just make sure you live and learn), so saying that it's like a boombox in the middle of a concert is not quite accurate at all; rather, it'd be like an internet radio station that you could MAKE THE CHOICE to tune into with your portable satellite radio receiver while you wait for the third piece of the concert to begin. No one forces a person to play these other things, or watch the other things, or look at the other things made by fans. And, assuming the fans aren't retarded, the fans don't claim the work as official. They just make it in tribute.

PS - The "fist to the face" thing only applies to those who, after having been informed of everything; after having been made to realize that all that this came down to was a CHOICE on the part of MS and not something that they were FORCED to do; something that MS would have easily been able to get with the HaloGen people about and work out, and yet they chose to just put the metaphorical gun to their head and pull the trigger; the person that knows all of that and yet still takes the stance to say that "it was not their intellectual property to work with in the first place" is someone who needs to have their ability to translate their thoughts into audible or readable language removed from them so that the rest of us will be made free from their incessant ignorance.

Because that part of the discussion is not the real point here. The real point here is that there were options, and that the worst one was chosen (actually, the second-to-worst, thanks to Bungie, specifically Sketch). This is why I made the apostrophic appeal to Microsoft that they still have a last chance to correct things. But if they don't; if they choose to stand by their arrogant and asinine decision, then that is a tragedy that cannot be excused.

There are costs to such behavior. And if MS were to continue in their blind ignorance, they would surely endure them. Let's hope that they don't.
