I like to think we do more to ADD value to the Halo : franchise than remove it. I agree about adding value--Bungie benefits considerably from this website because of the considerable benefit that fans receive from the website. Then again, it's hard to see how this doesn't apply to Halogen: it seems to add value without cost (opportunity or otherwise) to Microsoft. As far as the potential IP violations, I think both things are true. The entire site can be considered to be infringing in a number of ways. But the forum posting page alone may infringe as well, though there is no reason to seek infringement relief for the latter and not the former. Still, looking at the posting page, the graphical title is "HALO.BUNGIE.ORG" in a style similar to that of the actual Halo logo, surrounded by a graphic meant to be evocative of the same. At least a colorable argument for trademark infringment could be made on that basis alone, I think (this is not legal advice, etc.). The main test is whether the logo (pretty much on its own) would cause a Bungie/Microsoft customer to think that this site originates with Microsoft/Bungie. Again based on your (Louis Wu's) history with Bungie, this should be of little concern, but again, I wonder whether it is useful to think of Bungie and Microsoft as conceptually distinct in any matter of IP now.
