Well, there's always the goodwill factor. :)

Yes, Halogen was shut down. But SketchFactor pointed out some ways that the project could continue, if the Halo-specific content were removed; it wouldn't be the SAME project, but the work put in over the past 3 years wouldn't be buried that way.

Saying "we're going to do it anyway, over the wishes of Microsoft/Bungie" is saying "well, yeah, we like the game, but we don't give a damn what the creators of that game think; we're going to do what we want to do with their creation, and screw them and anyone who thinks like them if they're not happy about it."

Sort of puts the whole 'fan' part of the 'fan creation' in question, doesn't it?

I'm not saying you have to toe the line, and agree with everything a company tells you to do or say, in order to call yourself a fan. I'm simply saying that choosing to ignore a request, instead of working with them to find ways around the hard rules, is a pretty hostile route of action. (I know, there are plenty of people who are fans of Halo but NOT fans of Bungie - but in this case, I think the Halogen team was both.)
