In Response To: Bummer. (SketchFactor) I'm sure its much appreciated that you take the time to put all that out there. Its certainly far from the first time this kind of event has happened with other game mods. Many Star Wars influenced mods for many games have fallen and also ones like a Jurassic Park mod for Half-Life. Nintendo are also -very- protective of all their franchises and characters. Its only natural when you stop and think about it. And I'm not just talking about large mods like Zelda: Source for Half-Life 2 or the 16-bit conversion of Ocarina of Time. In Japan, there are several aircraft displaying Pokémon liveries such as this one http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1094190/L/ Nintendo will not allow skins of these aircraft to be applied to MS Flight Simulator, not even on user created models. And the flightsim community websites (which are nowhere near as small as you might think. A site like Avsim is often updated with around 30 new files downloads per DAY with more than 500,000 members) will generally refuse or take down any that are uploaded to avoid the risk of any legal problems. Though the truth is, if you actually ask any company about making a mod that uses their ideas, most will refuse as a matter of course. Many don't actually ask and simply don't know they are doing something the legal ninjas might frown on. Bungie are quite evidentaly almost in a class of their own in that regard and happy to encourage but it is not their call. Just a sad fact of life and more importantly business when you start talking about very popular franchises. Halo has become a very important brand name under the Microsoft banner. It was the killer ap for the Xbox and while its far from a release title you can bet that an awful lot of 360's have been sold almost purely for Halo 3. Hell, I'm one of them! Though now that I have a 360, I can appreciate there is plenty to make it viable in its own right. Anyway, I'm going on too much (as usual) Point is, the value of the Halo franchise just keeps growing, so its little surprise the legal noose is going to tighten. You can't really blame Microsoft for it, even if in some cases they might cost themselves small breaks in untapped markets. The 'free advertising' line of thought sometimes works out, sometimes it doesn't. In a way, it is a closing of an era. The price of global success.
