I do not think, however, that the shields are exactly what you : would call canon so much as "artistic license." Our modern military has officers wearing different uniforms for different purposes. The suits with all of the ribbons on them being one, the BDU's that they wear into combat being two, and any kind of specialized uniform for specific purposes/missions being three. Perhaps his Supreme Commander clothing is one thing, and his Gold Battle Armor is another. Both equally valid in terms of canon. Sound good?
