I agree. The vidmaster's challenge and speedrunning are not the same thing at all.

If you guys think exploiting some of Halo's glitches is somehow "unfair" in the aim of speedrunning, download the old Quake Done Quick and watch it.

There are some levels that are finished in under five seconds, without fighting anything, by doing grenade/rocket jumps directly from where the level starts to where the level ends.

Whether stylish or not, or designer-intended or not, the ONLY point of speedrunning is speed. As long as the game itself isn't being modified, it seems to me it's fair game.

To go into the grey area about what techniques are "fair" or not seems beyond the point. In fact, if you did that, you'd never really be able to get two people to agree on whether you've got the "fastest" run or not.

What would be legit, and who would decide? Banshee-jacking, is that legit? Where, and which ones? Superjumping, is that legit?

There's only one determinant of what is legitimate that can be enforced and agreed upon: the unmodified game engine. If there are glitches in there that make long levels potentially short (like AotCR) well... too bad.
