Well, my picutre of the Conduit piece made me think. What if the "Ark" is the beggining of the Conduit, and the halos the sections to keep it traveling in the right direction. Perhaps, the halos in a sense kill things in the galaxy, by transporting out of the galaxy. Each halo is in a section of the galaxy, amking it so that any attempt to travel to each would make the traveler go in a circle. The Conduit begins on earth, all beings are sucked into the "stream" via a "Galactic Vortex" which can be seen starting above the ark. Then all beings are sent into this Conduit, and spun around and around on the "Great Journey" until finally their atoms reach a point where, well we are literally flung into a new existing level.
