Delayed for what reason? | |

In Response To: Nothing to talk about? (Narcogen) It's definitely hard to disagree with that. It just about sums up the collective fustration on the subject, and it's eloquently put. So far though, I've found that I've been able to weather this storm (if we're calling it that now) better than most. Perhaps this is because I have taken solace in the fact that Halo 3 is on the way. I can see no other option at this point that doesn't involve a massive upset and loss of the less hardcore Bungie fans. With that in mind, I can only assume the cause of the delay is fear of hype. I was discussing this same topic earlier in IRC and other than this, there doesn't seem to be any other viable reason. Consider the time between the announcement of Halo 2 to its release. There were many, as the malcontents say, 'promises' made that... well, didn't pan out. Now the reason these 'promises' were never upheld was usually very understandable, but many fans were disheartend. For example, the ATV simply didn't work well with the rest of the game, so it was scrapped. Regardless, to this day, there are people who still wish they could have given it a whirl. Yet another example lies in the rather obvious, and all to often brought up, E3 demonstration. The game changed drastically, for better or worse? Well that's up to the individual. At any rate, changes were made and a rather large group of fans were disappointed. There are many more examples of this but I think my point has been made. Now there's no denying that simply uttering the name "Halo 3" will cause massive ripples in the ocean that is the gaming industry. As with before, due to hype, major gaming websites will undoubtedly make "predictions" (last one, mind you) or claim what they think will be cool new additions. Of course, it's publicity, and that works towards sales, but perhaps they're afraid of falling short in some of these hyped up aspects again? I wouldn't want to speak for Bungie, nor do I think that the ways they "fell short" (to some) are worthy of delaying the announcement of a game. But otherwise I can see no true reasoning behind it (given that my assumption, that Halo 3 is coming, has any truth behind it). Of course, on the other hand, this could be doing the exact opposite; it could creating hype. I mean it does have us all typing up long posts and thinking about it. As a side note, if, in fact, Halo 3 is not on the way... well if I worked at Bungie, I'd be locking all my doors at night :P. At this point I can see nothing short of a substantial rebellion of fans. The community has been on the edge of its seat since we've beaten the Campaign. I for one, am anxious to see how it ends, but I've been sitting on this edge for so long that my back aches, and I've given in to a, bad-for-my-back, slouch. Sure, it's more comfortable than sitting on the edge, but it's certainly becoming annoying. |
