I largely concur with Narc's assessment of the situation, but as far as whether Bungie is either not fully acting autonomously, or just sticking it to MS because they spoke too soon, I can't say I care all that much. I have every confidence that they will continue making the games they want and continue to maintain their standards for quality with those titles. But as far as announcing what the next title will be? Honestly, this is getting a little ridiculous. I had a whole bunch of stuff written up that I was going to put in this post on possible reasons why they haven't made any announcements, but I decided not to, because they could all be shot down by "so why haven't they announced anything yet?" I'm by no means of the camp that thinks Bungie owes the fans. I also greatly enjoy the Weekly Updates, for the same reasons KP stated earlier in this thread. I think the WWU provides an invaluable look into certain aspects of the development process, as well as putting a human face on Bungie, as many developers tend to be seen as a name and a logo and often little else. However, I do think the WWU's are a bit too much of a tease lately; talking about cool new things in dev and for the community not to have a context to put it into. What that ends up doing is working the younger segment of the community into a froth and making the older segment force themselves into impassivity because they end up hearing "Something very cool happened, but I won't tell you what it is." time and time again. I think many other people will agree that a huge part of the reason that Bungie's fans tend to be so loyal is that Bungie don't have this Ivory Tower (no pun intended) mentality like a lot of other high-profile developers and that they know when and when not to listen to their fans. I certainly hope that this extended period of secrecy doesn't mean something fundamental is changing. I don't want the WWU to go away, and I don't want to sound like the squalling fan that demands to be satisfied, so I guess I'll have to sit and be content with the frustration. Too little and too much are both bad for their own reasons, but even just enough can't do forever. That goes for information just as well as anything else. ~Ma1
