I suggest this because the Fist is a fantastically : sophisticated doohicky lashed on the end of a stick, which doesn't exactly : scream "precision engineering" to me. Everything else we see : used by the Covenant has a lot of concern for esthetics inherent in the : design, but the Fist is just a brute-force (pun intended) repurposing of a : Forerunner gadget. That's plausible. One also might argue that they could have adopted the Elite's shields-- but perhaps they chose not to out of prejudice. That seems more likely. Still, for the purpose of convenience, we don't see those prejudices across the board. True, Elites get full-body shields, and Jackals get arm-shields, and Grunts get no shields. But plasma pistols are available to all, and Brutes use a version of the plasma rifle obviously adapted from the same source as the one used by the Elites-- so why not the shields? : Maybe they couldn't (or wouldn't) reverse engineer the head of the Fist... : it's entirely possible that the only way they could work with it would : risk its destruction, and I could see the Brutes taking no chances with : their holy artifact even with their pragmatism. : -- Steve's wondering if this is yet another hint about how the Covenant : handles Forerunner tech. You're looking for an in-game explanation when the out-of-game explanation is more readily available :)
