In Response To: The Library aint so bad (Slimby)

I am certainly among those who don't like the Library; but, then again, I don't really like the flood in general, so that's not really surprising.

There are a few things about Halo 1 that combine to make it seemingly infinitely replayable for me. The excellent Covenant AI. The relative openness of the environments that allows for multiple paths of completion. The fluidity of the combat system in integrating gun/melee/grenade attacks. The near-perfect balance of the difficulty on legendary that pushes you hard enough to inspire creativity and then rewards you for it. It seems like no matter how many times I play it, things work out a bit different each time.

As I sit here and think about it, though, the amount of time I've spent replaying each individual level is pretty much inversely proportional to the amount of flood presence.

PoA, Halo, T&R, SC, AotCR I've played through, over the last several years...I don't even know. Many hundreds of times, certainly.

TB and The Maw less often.

343GS and Keyes even less.

The Library I've played, start to finish, exactly 4 times solo (and maybe 3 or 4 more times in co-op).

This isn't to say that the flood levels are necessarily "bad" levels (TB, IMO, may be the most interesting level in the game); but, though what I think is a combination of the level design and the nature of the enemies, they seem to de-emphasize many of the aforementioned qualities that have helped the game endure over time, at least for me.
