Sure-- for a shooter, Halo does have a lot of varied combat situations. Probably in Halo 2 there aren't really any situations that are as consistently tough as parts of the Library unless you're using skulls (thunderstorm, mythic, etc).

So I can see where the gameplay style of the library appeals to some, if not to everyone. Perhaps for me what made it less enjoyable was the layering of monotony-- the same monochromatic environment, same tactics used by the Flood, the same tactics you use in response-- run, open door, repeat.

Of all the Halo 1 levels the Library is the one that I've re-played the least; and unless I'm specifically sitting down with the intention of playing the whole game through start to finish, I usually skip it if it comes up. Mostly because it's the only level that features nothing but Flood opponents-- no Covenant at all.
