In Response To: Re: Why didn't the Covenant just shoot the MAC's?? (Slith) Also, Nukes are very ineffective in space. Most of the structural damage caused by Nukes is attributed to the shockwave. In space, there is no medium for the shockwave to travel through. The other way Nukes damage things is through radiation. Which does travel through space, but is only effective in concentrated amounts. To give you an idea; A high-yield warhead in the Haloverse could say, vaporize everything within a 100 mile radius. Put that in space, and you're probably only killing one ship with it. The most effective use of Nuclear Warheads in space would require the thing actually contacting the hull of its target. Rendering their use as mines essentially worthless, unless you expect the enemy to bump into them. In space. So, that means fitting them on Missiles. Covenant point defense systems generally take down 1/3 or 2/3's of every salvo of missiles fired at them. Meaning you have to hide your Nuke among a screen of other targets. Even then, there's still a good chance of losing that Nuke. So how do you make Nuclear weapons effective in space? You fire LOTS of them at the enemy, and hope some make it through their point defense screens. There's not much else you can do with them.
