That last statement about "later races" brings up about a million questions... that I want to hear answers to :)

1) If the Forerunner left the Flood behind so later races could study them, how did the Forerunner know there would be any "later races"? They killed all sentient life, didn't they? I don't think they would just assume life would cycle like that...
2) Why did the Forerunner see value in studying the Flood? Why didn't they program the Monitors to lock the Flood in a room and throw in a grenade?

ok... a million questions... 2 questions... that's pretty close
