In Response To: ilovebees - halo connection (webshift)

: Recently, I took on the daunting task of reordering (or reloading) the
: ilovebees story. When this idea was released last year in reference to the
: Halo 2 marketing campaign, there was a lot of speculation about how much
: ilovebees actually tied into the Halo 2 story line. It was undeniably
: Halo-related once it brought up elements that we are all familiar with,
: (i.e. the spartan program, Smart AI's, Section 3, Oni, etc). I still come
: across people that don't believe that the ilovebees story ties in at all
: with the direct story line of the games. For that reason I am going to
: write out some of my speculations about how the two are more intertwined
: than you might see at first glance.

: We realize early on that, Durga (Melissa) is a powerful AI, that just happens
: to have crash landed on Jersey's chatter. She starts pulling in all this
: information about him, his parents, his friends, etc. It turns out that
: Jersey's father is in the Signal Corp attached to Naval Intelligence on
: assignment in deepspace. Not a sure sign, but we have heard of the Office
: of Naval Intelligence before (ONI). This is happens in week 1.
: In week 3, Herzog, the old spy, is talking to his aide about the Apocalypso.
: He mentions that the ship was operating cloaked and deep in Covenant
: space. This fact establishes that we are in the same universe here as
: Halo. He also establishes that while they were in covenant space, they
: found the artifact that causes all the problems at the beginning of the
: ILB story.
: Now, there is a big jump to week 12. There is a meeting at Jersey's
: apartment, where Durga tells them more about what was going on. She
: explains that the artifact that the Apocalypso was carrying, was also
: something that was related to Halo. Read below (got this from
: http://www.thebruce.ca/ilovebees/ > transcripts of the actual wav
: files.)

: [ Scene - The Truth ]
: (opens the door)
: Jersey: Thanks for coming eveybody.
: Everyone: Yeah, no problem, sure thing Jersey.
: Rani: Thanks for getting me out of jail.
: Durga: (on chatter) I've learned some things I think you'll all want to hear.
: There will soon be a ceremony honoring John 117, a Spartan 2.0, who
: escaped the fall of Reach, and discovered a strange artifact that seems to
: be related to the one on Chawla base. Except the one he found was the size
: of a planet.
: (shocked exclamations)
: Jan: A planet?
: Kamal: Do they know what the artifacts were supposed to do?
: Durga: Mhm, destroy life.
: Jan: So, it's a weapon.
: Who: No, not kill enemies - destroy life, all life in the galaxy.
: (shocked exclamations)
: Kamal: All life?!
: Jersey: In the entire freakin galaxy??
: Durga: Mhm
: Rani: Wow! So maybe...
: Jersey: So... we did save the world! Woohoo! Yeah!
: (relieving laughs)
: Kamal: It doesn't get much better than that
: Jersey: Yeah, you know, the only way it could be better is if we'd used my
: plan.
: Jan: *sigh*
: Rani: Your plan? Why your plan?
: Jersey: *tsk* Cuz... we would have saved the world, and had Jan in a slinky
: red dress with a gun in her garter belt!
: Jan: (shock) What.ever...
: Kamal: Hey, that's a good point.
: Jersey: Uh oh. Jan's got that look in her eye. Like if she had that gun right
: now, I'd be history.
: Jan: Oh, Jersey. If I had the garter belt, I wouldn't need a gun.
: Jersey: ...whoah...
: Rani: Durga? What exactly happened to you while we were in Chawla base? After
: we shut down the artifact I mean.
: Durga: Uhm... now that's a long, strange story.
: Rani: You were the ship's AI on the Apocalypso.
: Durga: Yes! I was a top shelf ONI mission specialist AI, and my name was
: Melissa.
: Jersey: I like Durga better
: Kamal: I kind of like Yasmine
: Durga: But my nickname was the Operator.
: Jan: The Op! McKaskill talked about the Op! That was you?
: Durga: Mhm... apparently I had a reputation for getting people to do what I
: wanted.
: Rani: Uh huh...
: Durga: Cloaked and running deep in Covenant space, we intercepted
: communications that implied a Covenant attack was coming--
: Rani: --Troy. That's when they decided to run a covert evac.
: Durga: Yes.
: Jan: But the Covies figured it out.
: Durga: Yes. And then--
: Rani: Oh! They built a trojan horse.
: Durga: They hid a virus buried in a transmission I was meant to intercept.
: Nothing big, nothing smart, just the smallest, effective piece of code.
: Jan: And what was it supposed to do?
: Jersey: Gain control of the ship?
: Kamal: Find the location of earth?
: Durga: One or the other, or both. But most of all, it wanted to find the
: artifact.
: Jersey: Looks like these Covies are very interested in these artifacts.
: Durga: Captain Greene knew something was wrong with me. She aborted our
: mission and headed home. But not far from earth, something triggered the
: artifact. There was a giant rip in the slipstream and--
: Jan: Yeah, and all the alarms went off in the base when I was trying to stick
: a gate pass back in the motor pool office.
: Kamal: I was on a date. My chatter connection failed.
: Jersey: And that's when you crashed onto my hardware!

: The above transcription happens after the assualt on Chawla base, and after
: the group turns off the Artifact. Some interesting points here.

: Durga: and discovered a strange artifact that seems to be related to the
: one on Chawla base. Except the one he found was the size of a planet.

: Durga relates the smaller artifact to Halo. Then she describes what they were
: supposed to do.

: Kamal: Do they know what the artifacts were supposed to do?
: Durga: Mhm, destroy life.
: Jan: So, it's a weapon.
: Who: No, not kill enemies - destroy life, all life in the galaxy.

: This allows for some interesting speculation.
: The artifact was counting down to exploding. Since it was related to halo,
: and would probably function the same way halo did. Destroying all life on
: Earth. This would make sense with the beginning of Halo 2 when Admiral
: Hood comments on the size of the covenant fleet. And also when you're
: going thru the highway tunnels, Cortana makes a comment that the covenant
: were sounding like they didn't expect us to be here. This make sense. The
: Apocalypso picked up the artifact in covenant space. This could easily
: mean that the Covenant wanted them to find it and take it back to earth.

: So we know the Covenant wanted to find the artifact. They wanted to know the
: location of earth.

: A different turn on this.
: Perhaps the artifact was just out there in space. The Covenant didn't leave
: it out for the Apocalypso to find. But when the covenant found out about
: the evacuation of Troy, they sent out the transmission to disable
: Durga/Melissa. When the artifact was activated it sent a blast thru
: Slipstream, it caused the chatter net to go down. It was basically like a
: big flare/kick me sign. That's how the Covenant found earth.
: Now this might be an offshoot.
: So the covenant are attacking Earth. Truth flys back to earth, and we all
: assume that this is the location of the Ark. Perhaps the artifact in
: Chawla base is more than just a bomb. Perhaps that's the art. This would
: have destroyed life on earth if it was set off.
: Hmm…questions, comments?

: God what I wouldn't give to read the Halo Bible :)

Maybe It's the Ark. GS says in halo 2 that you go to the Ark in case the Halos don't fire. Cortana stops Installation 04 from firing, thus turning on the Ark, which was counting down to automatically fire after a set time period as a backup, if noone activates it/turns it off. Jersey turned it off, but during Halo 2, Miranda keyes keeps installation 05 from firing, thus turning on the Ark again. Does anyone agree with me?
