Not all literature is that simplistic. I certainly wouldn't expect this from a Scince Fiction writer basing it off of a Bungie game. I'd expect veiled hints everywhere I look. Plus, I'd say that every thing in a book serves a purpose. Each word, each paragraph does something to advance the story. In this light, the fact that the beginning of TFoR occurs is ridiculous unless it was intended to imply a relationship. I certainly don't think Eric Nylund just said, "Hey I'll have Captain Keyes be one of the really shy awkward guys around particular women just for the heck of it." Most authors don't make something simply to grab attention. Usually it serves a purpose. In some books the purpose is simply to drive a small point home that only adds to the environment. This doesn't really seem to be the case with the books. Everything either adds to the general plot or to the characters. Only in battles are any small point made. |
