Not so, this might be true with Dietz, but Nylund *is* a clever author, for being "mediocre", Simply check the Keye's Loop sequence. Nylund can take something simple and spread it over a large area to have it make sense only after fully reading and understanding the story, such as the seemingly useless firing of the Nuke, it was short and barely mentioned, but it ended up being something very important. Clearly Nylund can intentionally spread out clues throughout his novels. And Dietz only gives a few clues... well not clues per se', but clear indications of a love life. And a more subtle one where the flood consuming him seems confused at one particular memory that keyes hides from it, which implies it's personal meaning to keyes...

Nylund= maybe...
Dietz= might be unintentional... might not... no such thing as coincidence...
