Interesting . . . games (or any realtime simulators) generally have time-dialation code that keeps the world running at a consistent, pre-determined speed regardless of the power of the hardware it runs on. Otherwise, player and enemy movement would be much faster on a 2.8 Ghz PC than a 1.8 Ghz one. The extra cycles are typically used for visual or audial improvements, but the "speed" of the game remains unchanged from one system to another. I was thinking that if the Xbox was simply becoming overloaded and could not keep up at times, a faster emulator could fix the problems. But I think Frankie's right--to be safe, the emulator would need to be throttled back as well to only run as fast as the original XBox and no faster. Some games might work fine with a faster emulator, but others could exhibit erratic behavior. |
