Also, from studying both of the rings the covenant have probably not : learned how to build there own or a force that large (possibly) but could : have figured out how its core functions operated. This could mean they : could set its core operation functional and allow the beam to go off. the covenant's study didn't seem too thorough by the scenes from halo 2. they only learn what the index was and what did it after finding the oracle, which was half way through halo 2. i don't think the covenant could've understood how halo worked nor how to fix it if they didn't even know what the Index was. they *did* know about the control room though, but who knows. -deadmonkey
