In Response To: The Technical Superiority of the Halo series (Mothergoat) Thanks for the article. You make an excellent stab at trying to explain that ineffable something that makes Halo stand apart. Two things I'd add: 1. Less is More. Two weapons and you have to choose allows for so much more a challenge, both tactically and strategically, SP and MP, than toting around weapons 0-9. 2. Elegance of player movement. Relative to the environment, a player in Halo runs more slowly and turns more slowly than in a lot of FPSs (especially the various flavors of Unreal Tournament). That, in addition to the True Geometry stuff you mentioned, helps make actually moving around feel more much real and immersive. | |
