In Response To: Re: Very good thoughts... (Sardaukar [Pants 138])

: Thanks!

: I should probably clarify; The 'root cells of life' bit is probably the
: biggest variable here; whether the Forerunner spread 'early' forms of
: unicellular organisms*, or whether they were already present on Earth,
: entirely up for debate from my standpoint. What I'm saying is that
: whatever life was on Earth, this Forerunner virus recognized it as a
: viable successor race to the Forerunner and then infected them, making us
: the descendents of the forerunners only by distant, injected relation, and
: even then by thoughtprocesses alone.

Mm, but you're assuming that Humans are the only Sentient race on Earth, which is, please accept my apologise, a stupid thing to think. Now, since we can't really get inside the Mind and see if something is Sentient, since we still only kinda know where the Mind is, we cannot make that assumption, but we can make some assumptions based on what we know about ourselves. In situations of fear or panic, Humans resort to the Fight-Or-Flight response, as do all other known creatures on the face of the Earth. Humans are not the only species to use tools or technology, and we are also not the only ones to create communities. I believe Sentience can be defined by Music. In my theory, all Sentient species will react in a calm, happy manner towards music, and anything that does not is Varelse, to borrow a term from Orson Scott Card. Now, I don't think you can do this with Punk Rock or Heavy Metal... But things like soft music, like classical and such, has a calming effect on not only us, but other species. Play some Beethoven in front of your Cat, they'll go right to sleep. ^^ Now, I suppose it's possible that this virus infected ALL life on Earth...It seems as though all of the planets we reside on in five hundred years have been Terraformed, and I assume that we brought the animals to them...I'll have to keep this virus theory in mind, as it is especially well thought-out and fun to play with.

: * = I suppose this ties in better; otherwise, the Forerunner would have been
: obliged to spread their virus to all lifebearing worlds, and that means
: that the Covenant races might have been selected in our place, which they
: weren't- 343GS would have referred to them as knowingly when he said
: "the other races" (or something along those lines) on the level
: of his namesake... I think.

I'm still not sure that Humans are the only Reclaimers. How can the Moniters recognize Master Chief through all that armor? There's no way Twenty-four Oh-one Penitent Tangent had any kind of scanning gear when he met SPARTAN-117. So far, the only ones we've seen called Reclaimers are the ones that took the pre-determined route through The Library and/or were assisted by a Moniter, or succeeded in Reclaiming the Index. It's possible that, had Three-Four-Three Guilty Spark not been imprisoned by Tartarus, or 2401-PT been attatched to The Gravemind, that The Arbiter could've been labeled a Reclaimer. Maybe the Moniters just decided that Humans were the ones more likely to succeed in Reclaiming the Index.

: Also, one problem of mine is that I tend to start writing something, and then
: I go off on a tangent in another direction, and then return to the
: original point only to have forgotten where I left off, usually resulting
: in a strangely ended sentence. I'm bound to do that sooner or later : /.

As do I... See above ramblings. ^^
