In Response To: Re: Problems with your theories... (Vulcan) : However I fear not even our Cyborg freind will be sporting a rapid fire train
: I was trying to keep the conversation down to potential weapons :-) Sorry. :> My point was that yes, the technology for railguns does exist, NASA doesn't have a monopoly on it, and that slower-moving projectiles such as trains are probably all we'll see of railgun technologuy. However... perhaps a discarding-sabot round is the answer. I believe they're used on tanks to A. Speed up the main round by dropping the sabot bit partway through and B. Cut down on wear on the tank barrel. Perhaps a railgun with a really massive capacitor could fire a round bearing a nylon sabot (to cut down on barrel degradation), accelerating it to subsonic. The sabot then drops away, adding speed to the main round. (Simple momentum equation). Weapon does not give away its operator's position, as the round reaches supersonic away from your vulnerable ass. Plus it has high enough energy to blow through a Covie's head, as seen at E3. (By the way, the non-armored parts of the E3 Covies WERE green.) Oh, hell, let's just go with a rocket-propelled flechette round. :> |
