I don't think there's anything on the site now that isn't 100% reliable.
There will be more Halo stuff on Bungie/MS web sites in the future, although I think the fan sites are where it's at.
As for the truth about some aspects of the game...I think we say only as much as we need to say at any given time. I could tell everybody what happens in the second half of Halo, but that would just spoil the fun of discovering it for yourself.
