Ow, psyrixx.

I can see how being bought might lead to some conflicts of interest between a parent and subsidiary, but Bungie-masters have reiterated that MS has promised to keep their hands off of development unless their help is asked for.

Fact is, the Redmond campus is HUGE. They've got all kinds of projects going on there, some clearly targetted for the marketplace, others are... like many projects at PARC and the MIT media lab, nothing more than intellectual playgrounds.

I have a friend who works on cognitive science projects for MS now. Besides making craploads of money, he's getting to do exactly what he's always wanted -- make software and stand-alone robots that think.

My hypothesis is that Bungie decided to pack things up for Washington (1) Because Chicago is flippin cold in December, (2) Chicago doesn't have a cool fish market, and (3) They have myriad new resources available to them for product development that they never had before.

As long as MS maintains a hands-off policy toward Bungie and my hypothesis is correct, we can expect a marked increase in product quality from Bungie.
