Mmm, These are all very nice. It seems CGI is at a crossroads. What is
the distance between rendering something in realtime and having it look
comparable to this and rendering something that you cannot tell is CGI?

The first time I swa Halo I was like wow because they were doing in
realtime something that looked exactly the same as basic Bryce work
which makes my computers cringe. (Admitadly my computers weren't so buff
back then either ;) )

Metal Gear Solid 2's trailer is a similar vein. It's doing in realtime
what would be darn impressive to see in an animation. And some of the
other PS2 demos were actually bits and pieces from Square's animations.
Such as an old man's face they're apparently going to use in their full
movie and a dance sequence from FF8.

However, even the FF movie trailer doesn't quite break out of the 'it
looks like CGI' problem of CGI. It's very good and detailed, but not
quite real. Which is rather interesting. Take for instance the Jurassic
Park movies and Disney's Dinosaur. They had some quite impressive CGI's
elements mixed with reality to be a bit less obvious.

Maybe there's something in the backgrounds used that made the whole
image rich enough to not be as evident?
