In the book The Flood, the jackals under Yayap's command were pretty angry, but obeyed because they knew the Elites would take Yayap's side. In Fall of Reach, a hunter crushed a Jackal. Perhaps this shows a bond between the three races. The Elites are the leaders, and they rely upon Grunts and Hunters. Nobody really cares about Jackals, and Brutes and Drones are pretty new. So Elites command Grunts, and like good soldiers are loyal. Hunters obey Elites out of respect, and seem to be protecting their weaker castes. I bet that crushed Jackal was a bully! We know Brutes are pretty vicious, too. |
